Many people celebrate Christmas oblivious of the fact that Jesus Christ didn’t come for us to just celebrate Christmas and make merry. He came to do a lot of things for us, and his birth brought a new change in the lives of men. Here are five purposes for his coming.
- To save you. From time immemorial, Satan has been keeping man under yokes and bondages and afflicting many people. Jesus came to save you from that bondage, yokes and affliction. And to be able to do this, He paid a hefty price, with his blood, his life. Matt 1:21.
- He came to redeem us from curses. Another reason why Jesus came is that he came to redeem us from curses. For the bible makes it clear in Gal 3:13 that any man who hangs on a tree is cursed. Prov. 30:11, Gen 9:25
- He came to destroy the works of the devil. Jesus also came to destroy the works of the devil. 1 Jn 3:8, Col. 2:14-15
- To enrich us and make our lives better. Christ’s coming also paves the way for us to become better and richer. He became poor that through his poverty we may be rich. 2 Cor. 8:9
- To reconcile you to God. Sin took man away from God but when Jesus came, he reconciled us to God. 2 Cor 5:18
