What is salt? 2 Chron. 13:5, Ezekiel 47:11, Deut 29:23, Judges 9:49, Matt 5:13, 2 Kings 2:19-22, Lev. 2:13.
In Matt. 5:13, Jesus called us the salt of the world and told us that if the salt loses its taste, it’ll be thrown out and trodden upon by men. Understanding that we Christians are like salt will make us know how important we are to God and to know that He has put us in the world for a purpose. Salt is used for several things such as the following…
- For seasoning.
- It’s for preservation.
- For disinfection.
2 Chron. 13:5 KJV. Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Ezekiel 47:11 KJV. But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.
Deut 29:23 KJV. And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
Matt 5:13 KJV. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
2 Kings 2:19-22 KJV. And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren. 20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land. 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.
Lev. 2:13 KJV. And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
