The Place Of Trials And Temptations In Your Christian Journey

Trials and temptations will occur to every believer. Jesus said clearly in Matt 16:33 that in the world, we’ll have trials and tribulations. So as Christians, we must always expect trials and tribulations to come our way. Here are a few things you should know about trials and temptations in your Christian journey.

1. It is common to man.

1 Cor 10:13 KJV. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Pet. 4:13 KJV. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

2. It teaches us lessons.

Trials and temptations teach us different lessons that will make us better and stronger Christians. It teaches us to be patient, to have hope, to have faith, to trust God, and to persevere, amongst other things.

Rom. 5:3-5 KJV. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

3. God knows it’s around.

God knows your challenges. He knows what you’re passing through and will make things good for you when the trials and temptations come to an end.

1 Pet. 5:10 KJV. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

4. Your reactions matter.

Your reaction to the trials and temptations you’re passing through matters. When Abraham passed through the trial of not having a child, the bible records that he wasn’t weak in faith nor did he stagger.

Rom. 4:19-20 KJV. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

James 1:2 KJV.  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

5. It has rewards

At the end of your travails, you will receive a reward.

James 1:12 KJV. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Rom. 8:18 KJV. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Rom. 8:28 KJV. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

When you are tempted, what should you do?

When you are tempted,

  1. Don’t say God tempted you.
    James 1:13 KJV. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
  2. Continue instant in prayer.
    Rom 12:12 KJV. Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
