Everyone has a past, no matter how innocent or holy they appear to be now. If you don’t forget your past now, they’ll hinder you in the future. The word of God says many things about the past. Let’s have a look.
What the word of God says about the past
- Forget the past because it will jeopardize your future.
Isa 43:18 KJV. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. - Do not let anybody torment you or put you in bondage because of your past.
Gal. 5:1 KJV. Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. - Remember that God is in your past, present, and future.
Heb. 13:8 KJV. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Rom. 5:18 KJV. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Few things about the past when you don’t deal with it.
- Your heart faints.
- You lose hope.
Isa. 59:9 KJV. Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness.
Col. 1:27 KJV. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: - Hatred comes in and you experience less love.
How to deal with the past.
- Avoid the people who you were with in the past. When you bury your past, avoid friends who have a shovel as they’ll dig up your past.
- Avoid those activities you did in your past.
- Don’t remember the past.
Psalm 66:18 KJV. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: - Deal with the spirit of the past.
- Be gentle with yourself and put yourself together.
Prov. 4:23 KJV. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
