The Concept Of Lying – Pro 23:23

Dealing With Lies & Deceit – [2nd Service 7/6/2020]

Bible Verse – Proverbs 23:23 (KJV)

23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Why do people lie? There are 6 major reasons why people lie.

  1. They lie to make gains.
  2. People lie to protect themselves and their positions.
  3. They lie to suppress, malign, or paint others black (character assassination).
  4. People lie to cover up/make-believe.
  5. They lie to attract sympathy.
  6. People lie for no reason.

A liar is capable of any evil. Be very careful of such a person irrespective of their position or social status in the society.

Pseudo-gains about lying/Things to know about lying

  1. Liars obtain cheap popularity, riches, fame, or gifts that will not last.
  2. It is the first son of Satan. John 8:44 (KJV). Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
  3. Lying isn’t a small sin. [1 Cor 5:6, Gal 5:9, James 2:10-11].
Galatians 5:9 (KJV). A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
James 2:10 (KJV). For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

People see lying as a small sin but in reality, lying is a sin unto death as stated in Prov. 18:21. Lying is the same as a half-truth. Instead of not saying the whole truth, don’t say anything. Let’s see Gen. 2:17 and Gen. 3:4 and in John 8:44, Jesus told us that Satan is the father of all liars. In Gen. 2:17, Satan told Adam and Eve half-truth and they died a spiritual death after he deceived them in Gen. 3:4 that they will not die.

God cannot be comfortable with you if you tell lies.

What Are The Consequences of Lying?

  1. You destroy your future. Acts 5:3-4 & 5:8-10, 2nd Thess. 2:11-12
  2. Lying cannot allow you to stay with God. (Ps. 101:7, Num 23:19, Heb. 6:8, Tit. 1:2). For example, doing eye service. If you indulge in it, you will not last long in the presence of God. Jesus said I am the way the truth and life. No one comes to God through me. And grace and truth came by Jesus. And they that must serve God must worship him in truth and spirit.
  3. Loss of confidence and value. Lying will make people lose confidence in you. In turn, they will no longer value you and your words no longer count. Job 13:4. Instead of lying, keep silent. For even a fool is considered wise when he keeps silent.
  4. It puts a question mark on your person. By telling someone a lie, you risk losing their trust to the point that they begin to question every word that you say.
  5. It’ll affect your prayer adversely.
  6. There is a punishment for liars. Prov 19.5 & 9 Rev.21:8
  7. It makes you put back the old nature.

God’s opinion about lying is that he doesn’t lie and he doesn’t want us his children to lie.
